About MU

The Music University (MU) Series connects local musicians with music industry experts to jumpstart new relationships and ideas. National and local industry professionals offer tips and insight into the business to help musicians build a successful music career in the Midwest. Workshopsdiscussions, and panels help local artists identify their goals and provides an opportunity for artistic and professional growth to all participants.

Previously a full-day conference, in 2017 the DMMC is launching the redesigned MU Series to incorporate new and diverse ways to engage local musicians in professional development opportunities. This innovative MU Series offers a hands-on Workshop in the spring, a summer Discussion with a nationally touring artist, and a fall Panel all led by musicians and industry experts from across the country actively working in music business. Tied to popular DMMC festivals (GDP80/35, and LBF respectively), the MU Series will serve local and regional artists and will introduce area musicians to ideas and topics relevant to the regional and national music industry.

MU is organized by the nonprofit Des Moines Music Coalition (DMMC). Learn more about the DMMC at desmoinesmc.comMU is made possible with the support of David & Trudy Hurd, Greater Des Moines PartnershipBravoIowa Arts Council, and local business partners.
